Arriving at Lanzhou early in the morning we left the train for
breakfast in a local restaurant, then headed to visit Sculptures
of the Mother River and Sun Yat-Sen bridge, the first bridge
across the Yellow River.
Across the river there was what looked like a traditional
Chinese village.
It was another long, hot climb to the top, but I chickened out
about half way up. |

|
From up the hill I took a couple of shots of the Lanzhou skyline
(population about 3 million, per Wikipedia). |

|
At lunch we sampled some of the famous(?) Lanzhou noodle soup,
very long noodles somewhat difficult to manipulate with chopsticks (or with forks). Watermelon (very tasty) was the normal dessert. |

|
We then visited Waterwheel park, where some water wheels
used for irrigating crops are on display. The wheels are turned by the river flow, and pick up water to be dropped at the top into irrigation channels. |
| Pat and Reece enjoy the water wheel, with river and flowers in the background. |

Having spent two very short nights on the train, tonight we
stay in a hotel before travelling to Jiayuguan & Jiuguan
tomorrow. |
